Self important & with a big-fish-in-a-very-small-pond complex. Loves to hear herself talk. Overweight to a point that completely undermines any advice or criticism that comes out of her. Overly pleased with herself for reaching administrative heights via a series of meaningless titled positions. As a clinician she probably is competent; as an administrator seems more intent on maintaining her own power & esteem by continually criticizing others. Will not fail to emphasize her power and authority if given an opportunity, especially if it is one to tear down someone else. Continually out to prove she'e the smartest person in the room. Bad case of the "successful woman in medicine" syndrome: overly self satisfied and very set on maintaining power structures and her place in them, and as such must be an even worse "old boy" than the boys. Best advice: avoid avoid avoid. Proof that longevity can pay dividends and that the ability to ruthlessly and shamelessly self-promote still gets you ahead in academic medicine (while others do actual work), at least in a tiny environment like Dalhousie. My pity to any trainees that still must endure her prattle. Simply take a deep breath and nod, move on and use her as a lesson in How Not To. Best part: I know she'll see this, since she's absolutely the type to vanity Google herself. Cheers Vonda.
